Are you thinking about  switching your classic car tags to historical tags?  You may be surprised to know that it will automatically save you $140 per year on your classic car insurance. That is because you get a huge break on MCCA fees, which are applied directly to your classic car insurance policy. Vehicles registered with historical plates only pay 20% of the MCCA fee.

Does My Classic Car Qualify for Historical Tags?

A historical vehicle must be:
-More than 25 years old
-Owned solely as a collector's item
-Used only for events such as historical club activities, parades and car shows
*Note: A vehicle registered with a historical or authentic plate can not be used for routine, day-to-day transportation.
If your vehicle qualifies, getting the historical plates is a no brainer! The MCCA fee is $175 per vehicle with standard plates. That fee drops to $35 with historical plates, giving you an automatic savings of $140 on your insurance premium.

Is there much difference between insuring my classic car with regular auto insurance vs. classic car insurance?

Absolutely! The difference in premium is usually very minor but the difference in coverage and claim service is as different as night and day. Classic car insurance wins every time vs. regular auto insurance. Here are some of the main reasons why:
  • Claims adjusters specialize in classic vehicles and have the expertise in knowing what it takes to properly repair a classic auto.
  • Classic auto policies have specialized coverage options that aren't available on regular auto policies.
  • Classic auto policies pay claims for total losses on an agreed value basis, many regular auto policies will only insure an older vehicle on an actual cash basis (meaning market value).
