4 Key things you need to know about ATV Insurance

Before buying ATV insurance or getting a quote, there are four key things you need to be made aware of:

• If ATV insurance is attached to your homeowners policy.... Beware! Coverage is much more limited than you're probably aware of. Having stand alone ATV insurance provides much more coverage than ATV insurance piggybacking off of a homeowners policy. (For example, the common homeowner policy only covers ATV's while they're on they're the residence using the ATV to service the property. Many do not provide coverage for recreational use or coverage off of the premises)
• Being an off-road vehicle, many insurance companies charge a much lower rate than what they charge for on-road registered vehicles. You can put a lot of coverage protection on an ATV for much less than what you may think.
• ATV's are usually not categorized by itself. Instead they are grouped in with motorcycles and other motorbikes (scooters,mopeds,dirt bikes etc.). Inadvertently, this can sometimes allow you to increase your coverage at no extra charge or dramatically increase coverage for very little extra. This is especialy true if one ATV is the sole vehicle on the policy.
• 1/3 of all ATV owners also own a motorcycle. Adding an ATV as a 2nd vehicle on a motorcycle insurance policy usually brings huge discounts with it! If you already have a motorcycle insurance policy in force, adding an ATV on the policy can run as little as $20 per year!
