As of July 1, 2012 Virginia will now require all operators of boats and personal watercraft to complete a boat safety course. This includes those between the ages of 20-50, who were exempt from the requirement this past year. The only ones exempt now are licensed operators of vessels (masters, captains or mates) and commercial fisherman.
But don't sweat it! These safety courses can be taken in a classroom setting or online. Some of them are free, others are fee based. Here is a list of the approved courses that satisfies the requirement.
The good news is that taking this course will give you a discount on your boat insurance with several of the leading companies. Anyone who operates your boat or PWC is required to take the course, so be sure to all drivers on your policy have the safety discount applied to them as well. And this discount applies to any type of boat, jet ski or any other type of watercraft.
The companies that my agency carries all offer this discount, but not all companies do. If you would like to get a quote with my agency, I will run your quote through each company and find you the best coverages for the best rate. And as always, I dont share or sell your personal information to anyone. I handle all quotes personally and privately.
Get a Boat Insurance quote now and I will find you the company with the best rate.
